Beginning at 13th level, you can sometimes cause another creature to suffer an attack meant for you. When you are targeted by an attack while a creature within 5 feet of you is granting you cover against that attack, you can use your reaction to have the attack target that creature instead of you.
--------------------------
My question is this... if my rogue with Misdirection is targeted with a Disintegrate or Command spell, which both require a single target DC check for the effect of the spell, and I am adjacent to an enemy (or anyone) that is in between myself and the caster, would I be able to use the Misdirection? I am still being targeted with an attack (spell), and there is someone there providing cover against that attack, but the attack doesn't care because it is a DC check.
Here is what I have found on the Net:
Requirement 1: Being Targeted.Disintegrate is a spell that targets a creature you can see within 60 feet. If you are targeted, this condition is met.
Requirement 2: Cover. A creature within 5 feet of you must be providing you cover (i.e., they are between you and the caster).
The Action. You use your reaction to make the Disintegrate spell target that creature instead of you.
Important Considerations:
Not an Area of Effect:Disintegrate is a single-target spell, not an area-of-effect spell. Therefore, the spell only affects the new target, not both of you.
Cover Definition: The creature standing between you and the caster must be providing you with cover.
Reaction Usage: Using Misdirection consumes your reaction for the round.

No, saving throws are not attacks. Misdirection would only affect spells that call for a spell attack roll.

Wouldn't they still be considered Attacks, just not with an Attack Roll? I would think being Disintegrated should still be an attack? No? I understand that Saves are not attacks but since it targets someone I thought it might still count?

The word "attack" has a specific meaning in D&D rules that's different from its meaning in normal English. In D&D rules, if there's no attack roll being rolled, it's not an attack.
Are attack rolls and saving throws basically specialized ability checks?
They aren’t. Ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws are all different kinds of D20 Tests that can be made during a game of D&D. As such, all three share certain similarities: rolling a d20, being affected by Advantage and Disadvantage, adding modifiers, and comparing the total to a target number. But ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws are each distinct from the other. If something in the game affects one, such as the Guidance spell, the other two aren’t affected unless the rules specifically say so. A game rule that affects D20 Tests affects all three.
Okkies, Thanks all. I guess I was trying to find an extra little exploit since I still feel cheated about Insightful Manipulator being so ... blah. ~Mad
