Hello, I've started playing dnd recently and am trying to learn all about the 2024 updates as I've not played since.
I am running a Dungeon of the Mad Mage Campaign and updating stat blocks from the 2014 edition for monsters. One of the first rooms there is some bugbears with eaten brains. So predicting that my party will want to fight them, I needed stats for an Intellect D.
However the 2024 rules confused me alot. The creatures devour intellect ability no longer reduces intelligence to 0 or inconpasitates the creature instead stunning it for a turn, but its body thief ability requires the creature to be incopacitated but have 10 HP or fewer. So is the only way for the ID to use that ability is to completly down a character with combat damage and then whilst its rolling death saves use itd ability ?
Or did I miss some way it can Incapiactate creatures.
The Intellect Devourer's "Devour Intellect" action imposes the Stunned condition, which includes the Incapacitated condition. That's the main way it's intended to use "Steal Body".
Oddly enough, an intellect devourer can target a creature with the petrified condition, though it probably won't be useful. Incapacitated is also included in paralyzed and unconscious.
