What happens if I roll a 20 in an attack roll and then that number goes down to 18 due to Bane?

Hi there!

Imagine I roll a natural 20 in an attack roll but another player had previously casted Bane on me, so I have to roll a d4 and my 20 goes down to 18 because I roll a 2.

My question is: would that attack still be a critical or not?

Per the basic rules: If you roll a 20 on the d20 (called a “natural 20”) for an attack roll, the attack hits regardless of any modifiers or the target’s AC. This is called a Critical Hit.

so I'd say yes, even with Bane it's a critical hit.

Oppositely, rolling a 1 on an Attack Roll always miss despite bonus from Bless.

It's the virtues of Rolling 20 or 1 

It's similar to how Guidance or Bardic Inspiration work with natural 1 attack rolls.
