In the new Arcana Unleashed book, there seems to be some antisynergy between the spell Battle Familiar and the conjuration wizard's Durable Summons feature. If you have a normal familiar already, Battle Familiar empowers it instead of summoning a new creature, granting it temporary HP. However, this doesn't work with the Durable Summons feature at all, which is frustrating. You aren't summoning anything, so you don't get the temporary HP or damage resistance from that feature, and even if you did, you can't stack sources of temporary HP. What this means is that, if you're a conjuration wizard, Battle Familiar is heavily nerfed if you already have a familiar compared to if you don't have one. It has less than half the HP, and lacks any form of damage resistance. I hope this gets errata'd at some point, because it's kind of a bummer that you get punished for having a familiar as a conjuration wizard.
It's from the early Gen Con release, yeah. The wording of the Durable Summons feature is the same as it was in the UA; when you summon a creature, it gains temporary HP, and while it has that THP, it has resistance to most damage types. The Battle Familiar spell summons a creature, but if you already have a familiar, it instead empowers that familiar, replacing its statblock with that of the battle familiar (except stuff like HP) and granting it temporary HP equal to the battle familiar statblock's HP. If this THP is depleted, the familiar returns to its normal form. This means that, if you have the Durable Summons feature, the spell is significantly stronger if you don't have a normal familiar, since it gets to benefit from Durable Summons.

Where are you seeing this? The book isn’t out for a few weeks even for early access. Did you get it at gen con?
Without being able to read the details of the features you describe, it’s tough to consider your points.
