Hey everyone Im trying to pitch an idea for allowing players to main a single class but get some benefits similar to multiclassing.
The base idea is this
Starting at level 6 you can pick a 2nd subclass for your main class and continue leveling up your main as normal. The perk of this would be any abilities or features the secondary subclass has that your main doesnt will now also be applied to your character. The way leveling would work is you secondary subclass will be half of your mains level rounded down which is why I was gonna have it start at 6.
This will allow players to benefit from the experience of sub-multiclassing while easily dedicating to a certain role or playstyle. For campaigns that go beyond level 20 this also could give players and dms a unique way to level up beyond level 20.
Any thoughts or ideas to improve/balance this would be appreciated
While it's not particularly powerful (subclasses are designed to be rather meh, power-wise), it's unbalanced because there's no cost to it. Regular multiclassing costs you something -- every level you take in class B costs you a level you will never get in class A.
This, there's no reason not to do it.
