You can make this carpet hover and fly by taking a Magic action and using the carpet’s command word. It moves according to your directions if you are within 30 feet of it.
Now does that mean that you have to use the Magic action to activate it on one round and on subsequent round you can freely move, or does it mean you have to spend a Magic action each and every round to move the carpet?

It wouldn't really make sense to have to keep saying the command word every six seconds to make the carpet do anything. I rule that it's just one Magic action to activate the carpet, after which it moves where you tell it, no action required

I don't understand what you are trying to argue. Are you saying you can't climb on and just fly in turn 1?
I'm not arguing for or against any position right now. At the moment I'm just trying to 'take the temperature' and see what other people think the rules are.
My question isn't whether you can fly on Turn 1. Outside of something hampering your ability to ready the carpet (e.g. it is in a bag inside a chest buried in the ground) it seems pretty clear you can fly on Turn 1. The question is whether it would require a second Magic action to fly on Turn 2.
Just checking to see how many people fall on which side of the argument:
For the Carpet of Flying it states:
Now does that mean that you have to use the Magic action to activate it on one round and on subsequent round you can freely move, or does it mean you have to spend a Magic action each and every round to move the carpet?

I would say that changing its direction or maneuvering( like a dog fight) it would require at lease a bonus action.
