Can this combo be used? The spell and the maneuver states that for the cast to work you need to make a melee attack. theoretically shouldn't the spell effect hit both targets as well as the fire damage, but only the second target take the superiority die damage?
Green Flame Blade
As part of the action used to cast this spell, you must make a melee attack with a weapon against one creature within the spell’s range, otherwise the spell fails. On a hit, the target suffers the attack’s normal effects, and green fire leaps from the target to a different creature of your choice that you can see within 5 feet of it. The second creature takes fire damage equal to your spellcasting ability modifier.
Sweeping Attack
When you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack, you can expend one superiority die to attempt to damage another creature with the same attack. Choose another creature within 5 feet of the original target and within your reach. If the original attack roll would hit the second creature, it takes damage equal to the number you roll on your superiority die. The damage is of the same type dealt by the original attack.
Sweeping Attack requires a melee weapon attack, but does not require the attack action specifically. Per the reading of Sage Advice Compendium on Green Flame blade so it is a valid tactic.
On how I would judge the damage:
If you hit with the Green Flame blade, you do the spell's specified effect on the target and the second target as written.
The second target could only be hit with the superiority dice damage, if the original spell attack roll would have hit it as well. If not, no additional superiority dice damage.
So, yes you could use it. Should you is a different question, but that's because I like other maneuvers in preference to sweeping :).
Yes you can use GFB (or BB) with a Martial Manuver, smite, sneak attack, or anything that only needs a weapon attack without specifying an attack action (for example, extra attack and two weapon fighting don't work because they require the attack action).
Here is the break down in this case:
Hit target 1 with weapon attack (using STR/DEX as normal). Target 1 takes weapon damage and -if character is level 5 or above- GFB damage.
Target 2a (as defined by GFB) takes damage from GFB.
Target 2b (as defined by sweep attack) takes damage from martial die.
*target 2a and 2b can be the same target or two different targets.

So this was asked before in green-flame-blade-sweeping-attack once before. And the consensus was yes you can, because:
