I'd say if the armor is on the person,such as it waited to be put on before attacking, it would be possible and i'd impose disadvantage on the saving throw to break the grapple.
I'd say no. For me, what animates it is pure magic, so being inside would A:Push you out B:Both push you out and melt your insides C:tear a hole in the weave. Therefore, due to the pure magic, it is impossible for the two to share the same space.
