Regarding the great weapon master feat, does the bonus action attack that comes from a critical hit or reducing a creature to zero hit points allowed to be separated from the initial attack by movement?
When I first read the feat, I had envisioned a my barbarian with his greatsword making a large swing that kills or crits an enemy and then the 'bonus' attack was a continuation of that original swing that catches another adjacent enemy (within 5 feet).
Suddenly it dawned on my today that maybe I could actually make an attack which kills an enemy, and then move 20 feet to another enemy, then use my bonus attack on that enemy?
The word “when” would suggest you make the bonus attack immediately but in a discussion of another feat, an argument was made that you can’t insert a bonus action in the middle of your action.
My reading is that it grants you a bonus action that you can use at any point in your turn after you complete the trigger. As stated above, you can't use a bonus action in the middle of another action, so if making multiple attacks it would have to be after you finish your attack action. You could move in between the attack action and bonus action if desired.

Appreciate any insight.

Yeah. I had conflicting thoughts about whether it would be permitted or not.
I did just find this which suggests that such a movement is okay unless I'm misunderstanding?
