I have made a half-elf bard with Charisma of 19 here on dnd beyond. The skill modifier will then be +4. But why does my character sheet tell me I have skill modifier of +6 on Deception? Is the proficiency bonus added automatically because I am proficient in Deception? I want to know so I don't end up adding more proficiency to my throws when they are already included.
Your proficiency bonus is also automatically added to your saves, your weapon attack bonus (for weapons you are proficient in), your spell attack bonus, and your spell save DC.
And almost everything else it needs to be added to.
As a hexblade warlock can I add my charisma modifier to that as well. Example on my character sheet there is a +4 under the hit/dc column next to my weapon. Do I add my charisma modifier to the +4 when using the hexblade warrior skill?
To get the Hex Warrior benefit you need to click on a weapon on your character sheet and a pop-out menu will appear. Tick the checkbox labelled "Hex Weapon" and it will change the stat from Str/Dex to Cha as required.
Note that the Hex Warrior ability means you use Charisma instead of Strength or Dexterity not in addition to.
What about bard ability checks using a proficient instrument? Is there a way to get the interface to add the proficiency bonus automatically to the roll?

Tool ability checks have to be improvised for now because there is no suggested ability for them.
Atypical skill checks (like strength intimidation) have to be improvised as well.
