If a wizard casts flight on itself, flies 800ft in the air, then casts levitation on itself, does the wizard fall for any duration between the casting of the two?
I would say no. The relevant line is "You lose concentration on a spell if you cast another spell that requires concentration. You can't concentrate on two spells at once."
By my reading the first spell ends at the instant the new one begins, but I can see people interpreting it differently.
My issue with concentration is "what if I just want the instantaneous effect and don't want to lose concentration on another spell?" For example, use create bonfire to make a flash of fire for just the initial damage. According to the rules, you lose concentration on the other spell. Fire bolt and other spells already do more damage than create bonfire anyway, and the concentration actually further works against wanting to take it. Sorry, went off on a tangent.
But Create Bonfire is great when you create it under an opponent in melee with 2 of your allies. That opponent can either take 1d8 of Fire damage per round while you’re doing other things or retreat, taking attacks of opportunity. It’s also great for blocking a doorway while everyone retreats.
Its not super powerful, it is only a cantrip, but it’s power increases as you use it in cooperation with your allies.

Well, that certainly sounds like a great use of the spell!
But... if the targets succeeds on the initial DEX save, wouldn't that imply he's no longer in the square containing the bonfire?
To clarify, Concentration would then begin when the spell is fully cast and not before? So if a concentration spell has 1 minute duration, the concentration doesn't begin until the caster's turn is over and would then last 10 turns after the cast?
My concern was that a concentration spell might require Concentrating as part of its casting. It might be considered a "component" of the spell like the Verbal or Somatic components, that are used during the cast. You would then begin Concentration the moment you begin casting, but I seen no specific clarification.
I don't have the book on me, but near the beginning of Xanathar's Guide to Everything, it does say that you lose concentration on the first spell as soon as you start casting the second concentration spell. As such, you would fall.

It says specifically on page 5:
"As soon as you start casting a spell or using a special ability that requires concentration, your concentration on another effect ends instantly."

It make sense, for example, that if a spell lasts 1 minute (10 rounds of 6 seconds), that round one would be the first round in which the spell takes effect. This could be the round in which it is cast depending upon the spell, particularly if it’s cast as a bonus action. This would also be the round in which concentration begins.

I agree with Unruly_Cow.

Whoa, perfect final and authoritative response. I have that book but I apparently didn’t pay attention when reading it, thanks so much! :D
