I just took hex, and gicem how things are so far, I fully expect our DM to not care to much if its a proper attack or a saving spell. They both conmect Nd cause pain I suppose, who cares whether it's an Eldritch Blast or Toll the Dead?
Well, it is much safer to attack with spells. Spells that are vs. saves can be easier yet. Especially with hex, then adding the d6 on top of it, I could see how that would be a bit much.

Reading the hex spell-- adds damage when an attack hits.
Is this any attack? It doesn't specify the way other features do (psychic blades works on melee attacks)
Does this add on for every attack by the caster?
Yes.
It does have to be an attack though, meaning an attack roll. Saves spells dont do extra damage.
Ah, okay. It has to be something "to hit" which could be spell or melee but nothing like save against a dc.
