I would say no since mage slayer doesn't use the verbiage of Attack of Opportunity specifically, while war caster does. If I found a Crawford post saying it was RAI that mage slayer was an AoO, then I would, but as of my version, they read as different things.
That's what I was originally looking for and I figured someone before me would have asked the question by now lol. I'd hope that Crawford or sage would say yes because it doesn't really break anything but was hoping someone would be able to link/point out an "official" response
I googled war caster mage slayer sage advice and came up with nothing, the closest that I had was on another forum that wasn't exactly on topic.
I do think that the flavor of using magic for mage slayer is a bit contradictory, which also leans me toward saying no, but if you were the only magic user in the party and had some type of background saying that you were using magic to fight magic users to eradicate them... that would have an interesting story to tell, and I'd likely allow it in that instance. In fact that might inspire an entire campaign.
It's kind of a throwback to an old character that was designed as a hunter of evil mages. I was really hoping for not only a Crawford ruling but one that said yes. But it's just not out there yet. Until then I'll just ask the dm to make the rulings since I'm playing a lot of AL lately
Been looking, can't find so I'll ask. If I have both feats can i use an AoO granted by mage slayer to use a spell instead of melee.

I don't know about RAI, but RAW this is correct.

Booming blade seems perfect for this as it is both a weapon attack and a spell being cast. Ask your DM, rule of cool sometimes works.
War caster does also mention any AoO provoked by a hostile’s movement, which I assume means only movement done by their move action.
Mage slayer does not provoke an attack of opportunity, thus there is no interaction between mage slayer and war caster.
A lot of thread necromancy just to post the same answer as was provided 3 years ago...
