Haven't played since 2e still getting caught up. I'm working on a 4th level Ranger Beastmaster with archery focus and lucky feat. While trying to decide what to use as a melee weapon I keep coming back to the lance it does 1d12 has reach and is one handed while I'm mounted. According to the rules it looks like as a bonus action while two weapon fighting I can throw a dagger or hand ax while charging but I wouldn't get my archery bonus. Seems like throwing a dagger is not to different from some other one handed ammo weapons like a sling or blowgun. Is its somehow possible to poison a foe or at least get an extra ranged attack(preferably ammo type for bonus) while charging in on a mount for a lance strike using the two weapon fight mechanic? And can I even do a bonus action before the regular action?
A lance is not a light weapon, so in order to use it in two weapon fighting, you would need the dual wielding feat.
Once you have that you can dual wield any 2 one handed weapons, including the ranged weapons hand crossbow, sling, and blowgun. You will need a free hand to reload these weapons, but dual wielder feat gives you 2 item interactions, so you can put away and redraw your lance each turn.
And yes, you can use a bonus action attack before your action, though the rules get a bit grey about it sometimes.
