I play in a campaign as a lv 6 Death domain Cleric who instead of primarily focusing on healing chooses to revel in destructive cleric magics. My dm has ruled that I could this in our game and I’m curious to see how everyone else would as there’s no immediate rulings on this scenario.
Turn 1: Casts Spiritual weapon+Cantrip
Turn 2: Casts Inflict Wounds through the Spiritual Weapon which then makes its “Melee Spell Attack” to both deliver its own damage as well as the damage from the inflict wounds.
inflict wounds states you make a melee spell attack within range, Spiritual weapon also isn’t a creature, other than hitting its not interacting woth anything unless i command it and doesn’t require concentration. I convinced my dm that spiritual weapon is effectively a forceful projection of myself in a way. And he has allowed me to effectively add range to inflict wounds in this way granted i need to call out i am casting the spell through the Spiritual weapon and if the Spiritual weapon misses the spell slot is still expended having still used both my Action and Bonus action
While I think the idea is fantastic and I'm loathe to prohibit player creativity, I think you'd need to house rule or homebrew to give Spiritual Weapon that capacity.
The spell Find Familiar does precisely what you've described and includes very specific language for creating the exact effect:
Finally when you cast a spell with a range o f touch, your familiar can deliver the spell as if it had cast the spell. Your familiar must be within 100 feet of you, and it must use its reaction to deliver the spell when you cast it. If the spell requires an attack roll, you use your attack modifier for the roll.
If I were your DM I'd require something additional to have spiritual weapon be able to deliver that same effect because you're adding a rather powerful mechanic. Maybe an expensive component or cast at a higher level? (And come up with a creative name for the new version of the spell!)
Either way, at this point we're homebrewing, so in summary: I don't think it's a very defensible interpretation of the spell as it stands.
I don't think I would allow it either since it steps on the toes of other spells. I would suggest geting the ritual caster or magic initiate feat to learn find familiar.
Inflict wounds has a range of touch, meaning that its range is your reach. It even says so. If your DM wants to mess with that, sure--I just want you and them to know how much of a house rule it is.
It kinda steps on Sorcerer's Distant Spell metamagic which can turn a touch spell into 30ft range for 1 sorcery point. So you're getting it just for having spiritual weapon out which you're likely going to have anyway because it's a bonus action.

I would rule that you couldn't do that. But your DM is, so that's what matters.
