Hey guys, I am looking for an information on a thing that player is asking me about.
Can Warforged Wizard during his Sentry's Rest see through his familiar eyes? I would think that this rest is similar to sleep, even though you can see and hear everything going on. In Find familiar spell it says that wizard needs to use his action to see through his familiar. I am rather new to this edition, so I would appreciate input from someone more experienced. Personally I see nothing wrong with it, though I would prefer to avoid situation where "since he can see through familiar, he should be able to communicate with him through telepathy since that does't use action" and him abusing it for something.
I also ran a Warforged wizard once and rather than ask my DM how much I could get away with, I just decided to interpret "inactive" and "motionless" as no actions and speed of 0.
The rules aren't clear, so decide how it works in your game yourself.
It's best to ask your DM what they think. Looking up long rest in the PHB the first paragraph has the following wording "a long rest is a period of extended downtime, at least 8 hours long, during which a character sleeps or performs light activity: reading, talking, eating, or standing watch for no more than 2 hours. If the rest is interrupted by a period of strenuous activity--at least 1 hour of walking, fighting, casting spells, or similar adventuring activity--the characters must begin the rest again to gain any benefit from it." So I would interrupt this is that you can look through your familiar's eyes for up to an hour during a long rest otherwise you don't gain the benefits, since looking through your familiar's eyes would (at least to me) constitute as an adventuring activity. You could send your familiar out scouting and talking to it and it can inform you of something and then use your familiar's eyes to see if it's a threat or not. Again it would be best to ask your DM about what they would allow on this matter, because they could say that if you look through your familiar's eyes during the rest you loose the benefit. I hope this helps.

Remember this is a game and it's suppose to be fun for everybody. Let's all have fun and kill monsters.
Ok, in looking at the Find Familiar spell, I would say that while it seems plausible that they could see through your familiar's eyes during their rest as a warforged, it could not be done for more than 2 hours, given that an action is required to their your familiar's senses, and it only lasts until their next turn, which means only for about 6 seconds at a time.
Given the above, I would suggest your player look at other means of using another being's senses, as I do think it could be done, just not with that spell.

Thank in advance for input on this :)
