I dunno. A Gnome Monk that thinks it a Paladin might be applicable.

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
i Think halflings are a better fit for podlings, but I like the “monk who thinks he’s a paladin” bit for Hup...would explain his use of a spoon (club) and his lack of armor

I like it. A lot, thanks.
He seems to have a lit of wisdom too, so that seems perfect for a monk.
What subclass seems appropriate? Kensei (spoon)? Or perhaps a reflavored Drunken Master?
If you build Hup the way Hup sees himself, I'm thinking Lightfoot Halfling, and honestly Oath of Devotion, Ancients or Crown might fit. I thought about building a Hup myself someday, he was easily one of the best characters of the show :)
I'm working on this right now—I'll be travelling in Italy for a few months and my Italian is terrible so I wanted something that would be pretty easy to roleplay at Adventurers League sessions. What I've come up with is a bit of a compromise between wanting to play Deet and wanting to live to see level 2.
His main role in the show is as the protector of Deet, so Paladin seems entirely apropos, regardless of his atypical choice of weaponry. I think honestly he just couldn't find any other weapon his size. If someone had handed him a tiny rapier he probably would have had a glowing flash of insight and been all about it. But yeah, DEX-based paladin works well as a class for him. He won't be able to multiclass but that seems fine, I think the little guy will be quite happy to remain a paladin.
Level 1 selections
Race: Lightfoot Halfling Class: Paladin Stats: 17 DEX, 14 CHA, 14 CON, 12 WIS, 10 STR, 8 INT Fighting Style: Protection. Easy choice. Hopefully he can find a pot lid or something to use as a shield. Background: I took a modified Folk Hero, since Rustic Hospitality seems applicable to our little friend (assuming the commoners are Podlings, at any rate). Kept everything but the skills. The lack of a language from this background is pretty fitting since his Gelfling is almost as bad as my Italian. Skill Profs: Insight, Perception, Acrobatics, Intimidation—this last mostly for the hilarious image of this tiny little fellow brashly threatening a looming ogre and having the ogre back down Alignment: Neutral Good Tool Proficiencies: Vehicle (land), Cook's utensils
Later
L3: Oath of Devotion: gives him more tools to protect his friends and the tenets are spot on for Hup. L4: Feat: Second Chance: +1 DEX (to 18). Might rework stats to 16/16/13 and take Defensive Duelist here instead though. L8: ASI: +2 DEX or Defensive Duelist if I didn't already take it.
Haven't really looked at spells yet but Compelled Duel seems remarkably flavourful and also quite effective given his role as tank and protector of vulnerable party members.
I think I might start him with a "club" (drawn from his set of cook's utensils) so he can have that flash of insight during a gaming session. Hopefully the first one, because he's really not going to be good at using it. I'm not sure what to do with this "chain mail" that I'm supposed to start with. He's basically penniless so it doesn't really make sense to take cash instead and keep the money.
I haven't seen the series in a few months and it's a bit fuzzy so I might do a rewatch with Italian subs and see if I can pick up any more choice flavour.
Straigth to the point: I wanna play Hup from The Dark Crystal.
What is his race? What's his class?
Thanks to all!
Halfling Paladin duh.

Indeed, he was :)

I also want to build Hup from Netflix "Dark Crystal" https://techbigs.com/netflix.html
