Hi there everyone, so i made my character here on dndbeyond and i was confused on something, i was hoping you all could help out. For spells, it says the dc save, spell attack modifier ( which i add this number on my atttack roll correct?) and then a number that just says modifier. My second question is, do i add this number just labeled “modifier” to my damage roll or attack roll? Or neither lol? Or both lmao? Thank you in advance.
Modifier is already included in both the DC and spell attack modifier, but it can also be relevant for other reasons so it's listed separately. Some examples would be extra damage on green-flame blade, the roll for higher level spells on dispel magic and counterspell and the extra damage for elemental affinity for draconic sorcerers.
All the things referenced on the top of the spell page matter when the text of a spell says they do, basically.
1) Save DC - this is the number the monsters have to get to save against your spells
2) Attack modifier - this is the number you add to a roll if you're doing a spell attack roll. (Just the attack roll, NOT damage, unless the spell or a class feature says otherwise.)
3) Modifier - this is your spellcasting modifier, in case it's relevant. For example, I'm looking at the Healing Word spell right now and it says "A creature of your choice that you can see within range regains hit points equal to 1d4 + your spellcasting ability modifier." (emphasis mine). Wizards can prepare a number of spells equal to their wizard level plus their spellcasting ability modifier. You don't add it to your damage or attack rolls (again, unless the specific spell text says so.)
What ftl said. For the most part the character sheet puts these numbers in the spell where they are needed (for example your attack modifier and save DCs are based on your spellcasting modifier already).
