That's what I was thinking too, its how I've always played, New table the group swore by it. I couldn't find any posts from the Dev's clarifying that rule. And no they didn't consider it homebrew either.
If so, are you prevented from healing someone polymorphed? Can you heal someone wildshaped or is that considered temporary hitpoints?

Mass Polymorph is currently the only shapeshifting spell or ability that uses temporary hit points.
