By the same flavour imposing a mechanical disadvantage is also disrespectful. Which is what the attunement tax does. If its going to take an auttunment slot it should have something to balance it. Just having a functional arm isn't fair as you could just chose to not have lost a limb in your back story. (If you loose it during a campaign its a different kettle of fish)
They removed the attunement tax on Prosthetic Limb with the publication of Tasha's. (Which I'm glad about.)

I like the idea of creating a character, starting off with one. Great RP opportunity, without out giving any bonuses. And I like the challenge of having a mechanical character flaw... by occupying one attunement slot.

As poined out in August (and by the very reply before yours), they removed the attunement tax on Prosthetic Limb with the publication of Tasha's.
this might be late for this thread how ever depending on the "how" they lost there limb it can add some flare to your player character or there back story's like i have a reborn warlock that part of there backstory is -when they clawed or of there grave one of there arm's was mangled to the point that they had to cut it off- witch i got creative with the Prosthetic Limb ware they had a build in compartment store or had the spell components build into the Prosthetic arm for when they cast spells witch gave a odd dark theatrical flair to when the PC cast spells.
Question! If my Changeling character has a Prosthetic Limb, can the limb transform when the Changeling does?
The description says "it functions identically to the part it replaces." The part it replaced had the power to transform, so it should transform. But it's also not technically a part of the Changeling's body, so it also shouldn't transform.
I'm also asking this on a thread about Changeling limitations in D&D.

I'd say a Prosthetic Limb is an equipment not changed by Shapechanger trait.
Shapechanger. ...Your clothing and equipment aren't changed by this trait.
