Cantrips are spells. Ergo, they benefit from Arcane Firearm. The entire intent of that feature is, more or less, to empower the artificer's damaging cantrips in a way that makes them almost competitive with other characters' subclass-less baseline.
What about thunderclap. is an AoE spell with save instead of a to hit. I can't see why it would not work...

The lack of inflection in text means that a reader of any post adds their own inflection as they "verbalize" it in their head. I write long and repetitive in an effort to be clear and avoid my intent from being skewed or inverted. I am also bad at examples. It is common for people to skim my posts pull out the idea they think I mean or want to argue against or focus on my bad example instead of the point I am actually trying to make. I apologies for the confusion my failure to be clear and concise creates.

The Arcane Firearm feature just says "when you cast an Artificer spell through the firearm" you gain the 1d8 damage. It doesn't specify requiring an attack roll so a saving throw spell like Thunderclap would work with it.
Just bear in mind that the d8 only applies to one damage roll so with a spell like Eldritch Blast - only one of the blasts will gain the benefit. With Thunderclap all the enemies take the same damage so they would all get the d8.
Not quite correct. You missed the tail end of Arcane Firearm. "If the spell affects multiple creatures, one creature of your choice takes the bonus damage." So while yes, spells like Thunderclap or Fireball do benefit from the extra D8, it's only a bonus D8 to a single creature among all hit by the spell. So it's more like "I cast fireball, And **** you, and you, and you, and ESPECIALLY you!"

ah, i wish eldritch blast worked with this, alas, it doesn't. the point still stands for other example though, like scorching ray. but eldritch blast can't be enhanced in this way by reading it RAW. the arcane fire arm states it enhance your ARTIFICER spells...but eldritch blast is a warlock exclusive, even if you gained it from multiclassing or the magic initiate feat, it would count as a warlock spell. unless theirs some obscure rule or feat or magic item that allows to to choose a cantrip and treat it as a spell from your class, then im afraid EB will never get the arcane fire arm treatment . . .(not that it really needs it to be honest.)
you may want to check the wording in artificer cause it doesn't say that XD all it says is "You can use your arcane firearm as a spellcasting focus for your artificer spells. When you cast an artificer spell through the firearm, roll a d8, and you gain a bonus to one of the spell’s damage rolls equal to the number rolled." just thought id update this and make sure its correct XD also so you can do the extra f u to all those within the fireball.

Correct, they were likely referencing the UA version which still carried that extra line. The official version of Artificer published with the Eberron book does not have that restriction.
Arcane Firearm
At 5th level, you know how to turn a wand, staff, or rod into an arcane firearm, a conduit for your destructive spells. When you finish a long rest, you can use woodcarver’s tools to carve special sigils into a wand, staff, or rod and thereby turn it into your arcane firearm. The sigils disappear from the object if you later carve them on a different item. The sigils otherwise last indefinitely.
You can use your arcane firearm as a spellcasting focus for your artificer spells. When you cast an artificer spell through the firearm, roll a d8, and you gain a bonus to one of the spell’s damage rolls equal to the number rolled.

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
There is a Magic Item for that :-) the All Purpose Tool allows you to know any cantrip from any spell list and treat it as an Artificer Spell (you just can’t do any further modifying from Eldritch Invocations), so it’s potentially a more accurate EB from layering the All Purpose Tool and the Enhanced Focus infusion but less consistent on damage.
Question; I have a Staff Of Defense on my current character, which as does its own magical stuff. If I use it for my Arcane Firearm, will that supersede to normal stuff it does?

No, the Arcane Firearm description does not state that it can only be used on non-magical equipment, which is a restriction of Infusions to avoid over-powering an already magical piece of equipment. There's also nothing in the description that says the object stops being magical or otherwise loses features. So it's absolutely a straight buff to any item you choose to convert into your arcane firearm with zero down sides.
So will Arcane Firearm work with Cantrips as well? The feature simply states spells, but does not mention a spell level.
Check out my Homebrew Magic Items
Cantrips are 0th-level spells so I don't see why not - and like you say it doesn't mention a minimum level as some features often do.
