I'm brand new (like 3 months new) to D&D and so far loving it.
Quick version of my question: As a fighter with menacing attack, can I use that outside of combat to frighten a newt, kill it, and acquire petrified eye of newt? I'm aware that the definition of petrified they're probably going for here is the process by which organic material becomes a fossil.... But also maybe scared stiff?? Too far?
Thinking of going for Hex as part of magic initiate here, and we're in a forest with lots of streams, etc so should be pretty easy to find a newt. Thanks!
I love the idea of trying to manipulate the weave with technicalities and a spell book that doubles as a dictionary. Who knows if it's the material, the theme, or the verbiage that the weave cares about most? Being technically correct is the best kind of correct, after all.

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.
That's fantastic and your DM might get a laugh out of it and let it happen. Go for it haha.
Thanks you two! Gonna give it a try.
