How long do spell effects from weapons last? A weapon has the ability to cast Silence centered on a target for instance. That is a concentration spell that can last for up to 10 minutes. How would that work, exactly? Will the effect last the full 10 minutes? Will hitting the wielder for damage trigger a Concentration check?
The ability to cast a spell through a magical weapon would allow the user to cast the spell in the same way any caster would use the spell. Silence in this case, would last 10 minutes and require the user to concentrate and make concentration checks when damaged. If the spell requires a spell save DC or roll to hit then the magical item that allows the casting of the spell would have it's own DC or to hit modifier based on the strength/rarity of the item.
I'd discuss it with your DM. Wild Magic Surge effects that are (normally) concentration duration spells automatically last their full duration without needing concentration. Your DM may want to treat it in this manner.
The way I would handle it depends on whether the item grants the ability to cast the spell by its wielder or creates the spell effect itself. In the former case, I'd side with Nathan, but in the latter, I'd treat it as a Wild Surge effect.
