I just finished working on Darvin Ulmokena, a 10th level warlock with the "Book of Ancient Secrets" Eldritch Invocation. He's a public character on my profile, if you want to look at his sheet. When I was selecting spells for his book, the system just kept giving me more and more spells until I had the entire list. And then it tried to open another slot for a spell, but it didn't have any listed; instead it just says "-Choose a Spell-."
Is Darvin supposed to have 41+ spell options at level 10, or did the system just flip its shit?
When you select the Book of Ancient Secrets, it says what to do in the description:
" Prerequisite: Pact of the Tome feature
You can now inscribe magical rituals in your Book of Shadows. Choose two 1st-level spells that have the ritual tag from any class’s spell list (the two needn’t be from the same list). The spells appear in the book and don’t count against the number of spells you know. With your Book of Shadows in hand, you can cast the chosen spells as rituals. You can’t cast the spells except as rituals, unless you’ve learned them by some other means. You can also cast a warlock spell you know as a ritual if it has the ritual tag.
On your adventures, you can add other ritual spells to your Book of Shadows. When you find such a spell, you can add it to the book if the spell’s level is equal to or less than half your warlock level (rounded up) and if you can spare the time to transcribe the spell. For each level of the spell, the transcription process takes 2 hours and costs 50 gp for the rare inks needed to inscribe it. "
So in theory a 10th Level Warlock could have 40+ spells if they had encountered all of them on their adventures up to this point? I'm starting this character as the BBEG's right-hand man, so I suppose it could be possible. I suppose it's not quite overkill, since Warlocks only have four spell slots at a time anyway.
Maybe I'll take them away and start him with the two, since the party is still at 4th Level.
Those spells can only be cast as rituals, so there is a huge limitation on them. It is not really feasible to use them in combat for example. "You can’t cast the spells except as rituals, unless you’ve learned them by some other means. You can also cast a warlock spell you know as a ritual if it has the ritual tag."
The Warlock also needs to be able to acquire 2,000+ gold to learn and transcribe all those spells. "For each level of the spell, the transcription process takes 2 hours and costs 50 gp for the rare inks needed to inscribe it."

That is an extremely useful point for me to remember, although since he is the BBEG's right-hand man, he probably can access the necessary materials without money, if he chooses.

This will also be reflected on the character sheet with the words "as ritual" next to these spells.
