Therefore, for spellcasting without components—such as via Magic Items or Mind Flayers—there is truly no means to be targeted by Counterspell?
In that case, to counter such component-less spells, it seems we must rely on Silvery Barbs, or even Temporal Shunt and Magic Mirror...
Next is just my opinion, please take it as such.
I've read that some people rule you can use the 2014 Counterspell against a spell cast using a Magic Item, but I'd say you can't, or at least not in general, since magic items usually don't require V, S, or M components, and then Sage Advices or XGtE offer good rulings for that situation.
Also, some people think, because sometimes you need for example to use a Command Word, it's then something perceptible, or if you rule that reading a spell scroll is something done aloud. To some extent, I could agree with this idea.
But at the same time, I think that idea could be more feasible using the 2014 Counterspell, but I believe it's less defensible when using the 2024 Counterspell.
PS. Again: just my thoughts :)
EDIT: and sorry for posting in an old thread where it seems the topic was already discussed (although I didn't read all the replies in full detail)
