Curses are kind of unique. There isn't a reliable way to reveal a curse. But hints can be found. "Most methods of identifying items, including the identify spell, fail to reveal such a curse, although lore might hint at it."
So if lore could provide hints about a curse than an Arcana check "our ability to recall lore about spells, magic items, eldritch symbols..." could give the player hints that they may be cursed.
"A curse should be a surprise to the item's user when the curse's effects are revealed."
I know your asking about a player being cursed but I'd think the same rules apply. I should add though that in typical D&D style there are cursed items that specifically say that casting Identify reveals the curse. So could whatever the player is cursed with be one of those rare curses that can be found by Identify??? Only the DM knows :)
My apologies if this has been asked before. Is there away to detect if a character is cursed?
I know in older versions of the game there was a detect curse spell. Do we now do that with Detect Magic, or Medicine, or something else entirely?
