So I was reading through the spell of True Resurrection, which requires some pretty pricey components (holy water and some diamonds worth a total of at least 25,000 gp). I was like, "That's gonna be pretty hard to acquire, but I'll get there." Then I looked at which classes can cast the spell: Cleric and Druid. I'm a Bard, so I can't cast this spell (actually, I can at 18th level with Magical Secrets, but I am not wasting a known spell for that). So I thought, maybe I can hire someone to cast it for me, but that would probably cost more than the spell itself, and they can just deny me. I also though about casting Wish, but Wish can only recreate an 8th level spell and lower. The fact that True Resurrection is a 9th level spell makes me think that I likely can't duplicate it's effects. Certain circumstances have ruled out the using of Resurrection. My last idea is a spell scroll. Obviously a True Resurrection spell scroll is going to be very hard to come by. I don't expect the DM to just plop it in my hands. I was thinking that if I eventually got the scroll, I could use it for what I need it for. But then I wondered if I would need any material components. I understand verbal components and I guess somatic, but would you still need material components? Aren't materials used up when creating the spell scroll in the first place? I just need to know if I actually have to get the materials and the scroll to cast it, because that would clear up what I need to do.
So as a DM i would say no you dont need a components but to cast a spell scroll it needs to be on your class list of spells to be able to use. So, a bard still would not be able use a scroll unless your dm decide differently.
You need to provide the components when scribing the spell.
Also, 9th level scrolls are typically ridiculously expensive to buy. It's the kind of thing a Pope gives as a gift to a King for his 50th birthday present after falsely accusing the prince of treason.
@Drizztthedeath Right, so likely, I'd have to get a different party member to use it if you were the DM. I'm not sure about my DM's rules about spell scrolls. I'll have to check in on our next session.
@Mog_Dracov Yeah, I wasn't expecting to buy it. I was likely going to go treasure hunting once I eventually get to a higher level. As a level 3 bard, I did not expect the DM to just allow me to walk up to the Archmage of the Warmother and toss him 15 gp for a 9th level spell scroll. I am likely going to be working for this over a long period of time, but if my character does live that long, then I can start working towards hopefully finding one.
Keep in mind that it takes almost an entire year of constant work and 250,000 gp to make a 9th-level spell scroll yourself. Even if you don't plan on purchasing it outright, that's the magnitude of the treasure you're hunting for :p
Also remember that a spell has to be on your class' spell list in order for you to understand and use the spell scroll. So even if you do get your hands on a scroll of True Resurrection, you'd still need to find a cleric or druid to cast it for you.
@SagaTympana Yeah, I did not think it was going to be an easy task. This would definitely be a long term goal. I don't expect to acquire anything remotely close for 10, 20, or maybe even 40 sessions. 50 is pushing it a little, though I don't know how often we would level up (since he's using milestone xp) so it could be even longer for all I know.

Canto alla vita
alla sua bellezza
ad ogni sua ferita
ogni sua carezza!
I sing to life and to its tragic beauty
To pain and to strife, but all that dances through me
The rise and the fall, I've lived through it all!
