Quick question. From how I read the Psychic blades ability, the cantrip booming blade or green flame blade would qualify, correct? Since the ability says when you hit with an weapon attack and not use attack action.
It says “When you are about to make a melee or ranged weapon attack,” not “when you hit,” but yeah, your understanding of the interaction with those spells is correct. BB and GFB ask you to make a weapon attack, which is all that’s required to trigger Psychic Blades. This also means that you can use the bonus action attack from Psychic Blades with GFB and BB.
This is something that may be changed in the future. It feels very powerful for literally zero resource cost. You have to multiclass or take Magic Initiate, sure, but still.
When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration to deal an extra 2d6 psychic damage to that target. You can do so only once per round on your turn.
this is fro DDB and what I was referring to. Thanks for the reply I assumed it meant it would work. But I wanted to confirm.
oh, and half elf (high elf variant) will give you a cantrip instead of skill versatility if you choose so you can get BB or GFB that way.
My new prediction is that WotC are going to have to rename the Souknife's Psychic Blades ability, because it's super confusing for two subclasses for completely different classes to have the exact same feature name XD
Anyway, yes, the BARD'S Psychic Blades feature will also work with the weapon attack used in BB or GFB.
What would be a good class to MC with to get better than light armor. If I’m going into melee range studded leather just won’t cut it.
I was thinking starting as either a fighter 1 level with soldier background or cleric ( not sure what domain) so as to not interfere with spell progression. Then rest whispers bard.

The best choice would be hexblade warlock. Which is also another way to get some cantrips, another spell, a short rest spell slot, medium armor, shield and martial weapon proficiencies, charisma on your weapon attacks, hexblade's curse and other benefits. (unless you really want heavy armor - which means starting fighter or a cleric dip but that will need a 15 strength if you don't want it to slow you down.) A second level of warlock nets a couple of useful invocations, another short rest spell slot and some additional spells.

I hadn’t considered hexblade, might be a good rp opportunity as well.
I know this is an old thread, but it's one of the first results that popped up for me when I was wondering about this myself and googled the question. Initially, yes, you could do this. However, both booming blade and green flame blade added errata in November 2020 to require a material component of "a melee weapon worth at least 1sp" and that weapon is the one you must attack with.
Psychic blades, being conjured weapons, have no value. So, RAW, you could not use either spell with them.
Same goes for the conjured weapon from the shadowblade spell or conjured weapons from the warlock's pact of the blade feature (assuming it's conjured from nothing, and not an actual weapon that they designated as their pact weapon).

Also both Booming Blade and Green-Flame Blade are now described as having an Action casting time and making the attack with the weapon as part of casting the spell. So this is another strike against these cantrips working with the Rogue Soulknife's Psychic Blades.
However the OP was apparently referring to the Bard College of Whispers Psychic Blades class feature. This feature let's you use your Bardic Inspiration to add Psychic damage when you hit with a weapon attack. So you can use this class feature with those cantrips since it only requires hitting with a weapon attack. So the College of Whispers Bard can wield a Rapier, use it when casting Booming Blade, and use their Psychic Blades class feature for additional damage. At level 5 this would do 1d8 + Str/Dex Piercing plus 1d8 Thunder plus 3d6 Psychic.

Almost. Because Booming Blade's 1d8 Thunder is explicitly additional damage added to the weapon attack (as opposed to separate damage from the spell itself - the usual difference is that because of the wording, the Thunder damage can crit) and similarly the Psychic Blades psychic damage is "additional", you can choose any of the three types for the damage from your ability modifier, just like you choose for Sneak Attack or Hunter's Mark. If this Bard took 2 levels of Paladin they could Smite and choose Radiant for their ability modifier damage, etc.

I agree with your comments about psychic blades and shadow blade since neither of these have a stated value and so could be interpreted to not have a value of 1sp.
However, the blade pact warlock summons a weapon from the PHB, that weapon has a printed value, the warlock could walk into a shop and sell the blade for that value (though it wouldn't last long) so any warlock pact weapon should qualify to use BB or GFB RAW.
In addition, what is the value of a +1 longsword? RAW there is a price for a longsword but not a magical one. Would you say that BB or GFB can't be used with magical weapons? What about a magical longsword that can only be used by one creature? It disappears if wielded by anyone else. What is the value of that weapon?
Anyway, I think that RAW, the Warlock's pact weapon, as well as magical weapons will both work with BB and GFB.
The issue is Shadow blade and a rogue's psychic daggers. Personally, I would allow both to work with BB, GFB in any game I was running. It could be argued that shadow blade has a value since the spell itself costs a certain amount to purchase so summoning such a blade could have a cost associated. If you didn't spend the gold, you wouldn't have the blade. Psychic daggers unfortunately doesn't even have that far-fetched justification. However, a DM could refuse both of these based on RAW.
P.S. I think the cost was added because some players were arguing that the weapon that they would use for the spell would be in their component pouch automatically because it had no cost and wasn't used up in the casting - thus giving them a source of free, unlimited weapons. RAW, that might be correct but I don't know ANY reasonable DM who would allow it.
"A component pouch is a small, watertight leather belt pouch that has compartments to hold all the material components and other special items you need to cast your spells, except for those components that have a specific cost (as indicated in a spell's description)."
