Do Pseudodragons effectively have hands? Meaning can they manipulate items the way we can? There isn't anything in the rules one way or the other that I can find and the drawings of them are ambiguous enough that the answer could go either way.
I’m asking because I’m running a campaign where a PC has one as a familiar and I’m playing a Warlock who has one as a familiar so it matters in both of my campaigns!
I’m thinking pick things up and carry them, for example a coin purse, and open a door. Although I’ve seen cats open doors, much to the chagrin of their owners.
Thank you. Since I’m thinking about items that are lightweight enough that Mage Hand can move them a Pseudodragon can easily move them with it’s Strength score of 6.
I had always treated them as more hand-like in game play. The big thing would the having an opposable thumb to grasp the items securely. The picture there does not show it.
I think the picture gives a good clue: like the mouse pictured with it, it can hold small things and perform simple manipulations, but with no opposable thumbs it is fairly limited.
I would assume that since Pseudodragons are one of the options available to Pact of the Chain Warlocks along with Imps, Sprites, and Quasits that they, too, would have opposable thumbs. Unfortunately, there is nothing in the statblock or creature description of any of those creatures that explicitly says that have have opposable digits. So as not to be unfair to the PC, it makes sense that the Pseudodragon would have similar hand/claw dexterity as the other special familiars.

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.
Those look like hands to me, at least more than the hind claws do.

Depends on what you want them to do. Play an instrument? Probably not. Use weapon? A small one, possibly. Turn a page in a book? Sure.

I think their STR and size would be the the real limitation on many things. They have a great DEX and good INT.

Are you making a coin/item stealing familiar that you cast invisibility on? Hehe.
