for example,my rogue has expertise with persuasion, would getting the diplomat feat double my proficiency bonus again,(to a X4)or would that ability of the feat become null?
I forgot what page it's on, but profieceny can be modified only once. So if you have expertise plus a class ability that doubles proficiency they dont stack.
It's similar to how you only get one calculation for your AC.
I wonder though if expertise works similar to skill proficiency in the replacement sense.
I know that if you get a proficiency from something and then something later on down the road would give you a the same proficiency you are allowed to pick another skill proficiency instead.
If a character would gain the same proficiency from two different sources, he or she can choose a different proficiency of the same kind (skill or tool) instead.
for me I think I would allow if someone got expertise in a skill/tool and then got something that gave the exact same expertise I would allow them to follow the same rule above. Obviously would still need to follow the rule for gaining expertise (having proficiency in it first). But that way no one is cheated out of a bonus.

Nope. The "same proficency" rule also only applies to character creation and backgrounds.
hay so runeknight has the ablility with the fire rune to double proficency with tools that the user is proficent if they are proficent and have expertese does it stack

One thing to keep in mind, in a very technical way, is that the wording is specifically that your Proficiency Bonus is doubled, and not that your Proficiency Total is doubled. So even though you might have two features that double your Proficiency Bonus, those two features do not interact with each other... they are each only modifying the base Proficiency. I think comparing it to AC calculations is pretty apt... you don't get two x2 Multipliers, you get two options of which x2 multiplier you will be applying.
Right, others have noted, the rules are clear that proficiency bonus only doubles once, period. Aim to build to get multiple expertise/expertise-like benefits. Once a skill has expertise it’s time to move on to be more versatile, not hyper specialize. You’re already an expert to the extend the rules allow.
