There are a lot of really cheap simple weapons in DnD. Are there any rules or mechanics for crafting these weapons? I know the lizardfolk race is able to craft some simple weapons and a shield on a rest out of materials. Are there any other mechanics for this? Mostly so my halfling rogue/ranger may be able to craft darts to use. They only cost 5cp and weigh a quarter pound.
Xanathar’s Guide to Everything has crafting rules. The short version is you need the appropriate tool proficiency usually armorer or leatherworking tools, materials equal to half the retail price, and then it takes a number of weeks equal to item cost/50. In general it’s better to just buy the stuff, D&D isn’t really a crafting game.

It’s important to note the item cost/50 is in GP...so really inexpensive items take relatively quick durations to craft. I would also rule a club can be fashioned in one action or less (improvised Weapon rules)
I thought the rule in XGtE was that a crafter can work a maximum of 8 hours per day and in that time produce 25g worth of product? So a 50g item would take 2 days at 8 hours per day and a 2g Dagger would take about 40 minutes.

That sounds more like the DMG method for magic items. Xalthu has it right from Xanathars for standard items
