So, I'm a newer DM and I have a specific encounter in mind. My players are currently in a swamp and I really want to throw a shambling mound at them because, ya know, swamp. However, the specific swamp they're in has some poisonous algae in it they have been trying to avoid. I'd like to find a way to tie the algae in to the monsters abilities and give the shambler a way to deal poison damage if possible, any advice?

If you have an idea for the effect of the poison algae then this is really simple.
Take shambling mound stat block, add poison damage and condition immunity and the effect of the algae to it's actions. Then recalculate CR. Done.
