I am assisting the DM of our campaign and she wants to have one of the 'evil' NPCs create a curse. The curse will create a storm cloud that leaves a thick black fog in its wake. Anyone who comes in contact with the fog will have their alignment change from 'good' to 'evil' until the curse is removed. This only affects those who have any 'good' alignment, it does not affect 'evil' or true 'neutral' alignments. We have the mechanics and all worked out, but we want to make it more dramatic by having the evil NPC release the curse by 1st creating a special fire using some special compounds and then performing a ritual to release the curse. What we need help with is the types of compounds to use, and coming up with the symatic parts of the curse. We want something like a ritual 'prayer' or something like a poem or saying that activates the curse. Has anyone had any experience with creating curses. We want it to be more dramatic instead of just stating the curse and saying 'you have been cursed'.
“Bring forth the evil that lies within their hearts, So that the goodness in this world shall fall apart…
So that pleas for help, they will not hear, as we deafen them with this zombie’s ear.
Injustice and wrongdoings, they will not spy, as we blind them with this hag’s eye.
Truth and harmony, will not be sung, as we mute them with this goblin’s tongue.
And malicious acts, they will let stand, as we bind their actions with this imp’s hand.
Let the dark mists spill across the sky, and let goodness wither and die!”
So, here's a quick poem that outlines the difference aspects of the curse that will change "good" people into "evil" people. The idea being that the ritual focuses on corrupting how people see, hear, talk, and act. The main components to the ritual are the items described in each of the stanzas (i.e., zombie's ear, hag's eye, goblin's tongue, and imp's hand). The components also being somewhat symbolic to match with the changes toward evil, so the imp's hand would perform malicious acts.
Not the most elegant presentation, I know, but it's a quick idea that I hope helps provide some groundwork to build upon.
I think we can work with that. Thanks. That really helps a lot. I'm still open to any more suggestions though. I will pass this along to our DM and see if she can work with it.
Could you help me create a short saying like that to allow the NPC to open a portal to another plane. She needs to be able to allow the curse to affect another plane at the same time. We already have all the mechanics worked out, just need an incantation to open the portal.

Is there a particular plane being affected? For example, they could say "By the ringing of these iron bells, we open the gates to the burning hells!"
Or do you need the incantation to be more generic? For example, they could instead say "Over the oceans, across the sands, through the air, cover all the lands!"
We have four planes that our campaign is spread across. These planes are home brew. The main land is on just our regular plane, the plane we want to open to is called Xanthia, some of the players have already been transported there (by other means) ,but it requires a special ritual to open the portal. We haven't been using incantations to do this until now. It has become necessary to do it that way now. Bassicaly (spelling?) ,we need a basic generic incantation to open the portal. Only certain players have the ability to do this, and only certain NPCs as well. There aren't many symatic components to do this, only requirement is that you have either a magical wand or sceptre, or a wizard's staff. That is all that is needed to open the portal asside from the incantation itself.
BTW, The DM liked your curse incantation and has decided to use it. She changed a couple of things, but it worked out great. She wanted me to thank you greatly.

How about something fairly straight forward like, "Time and space shall do as we bid. Reality will reveal [place's name] path that was once hid..."
You can change it up to match with each of your homebrewed planes by saying "Xanthia's path" or otherwise.

You're very welcome! Glad that it worked out for her to use.
Is there a spell or ability that allows another player to learn the attributes, alignment, and/or background of a player?
Battlemaster (Fighter) and Mastermind (Rogue) both have features that allow a character to learn about the stats / levels of creatures. I don't know about alignment, but detect thoughts could probably reveal someone's background
I wasn't sure where to put this.....

Okay, let me give this a shot:
