If the Noble background is taken, do we get the same starting gold and equipment as the unwashed masses?
You get additional gold from the background.
I have a weird sense of humor.

.... standing naked in the rain doesn't count.
And we're still getting complaints from the townsfolk over it, too!
Each background gets different starting gold and equipment.
