I remember reading somewhere once that in a previous edition of DND it was revealed that the whole purpose of the feywild was to fight an unending war against some great old evil.
The Unseelie Fey sit at the border of that war and are created to be great fighters and warriors, while the Seelie Fey where created to protect the rest of the planes from the unseelie fey.
Almost all fey (seelie and unseelie) go and fight in the actual war at some point but, when they leave the front lines they have their memories wiped. This means that seelie and unseelie fey creatures can forge friendships and relationships but, at the end of a period of service forget it all and go back to the unending rivalry between the 2 courts.
I am trying to find as much as I can about this side of the fey wild as I have an adventure idea based around it. Does anyone know where this was discussed in the old source material?
