For my next character, I'm making a shifter Cleric in a Critical Role homebrew campaign. I've been trying to come up with some unique quirks and practices that a child of lycanthropes might put into play if they were in service to a god (specifically the Moonweaver, Critical Role's CG deity of moonlight, night, illusion, autumn, misdirection and passion; typically worshipped by elves, halflings, fey, and anyone with lycanthropy), but I haven't had much luck. All I've got so far as for basic personality traits is that they're insightful, spiritual, deceptive, distrustful, they love to eat, and, at least under the full moon, get a little bit beastly.
Also, their subclass is Critical Role's homebrew Moon Domain, which embodies ideals of mystery, clarity, and cycles, which I'd like to implement into their personal philosophy.
If anyone has any ideas for how to further develop this character or their relationship with their chosen divinity, please let me know.
The Moonweaver definitely has a penchant for trickery and illusion, especially if it exposes or punishes wrongdoers since she’s a Good-aligned goddess. Maybe have your Shifter be a bit of a prankster, especially when the moon is out and full? Also, look into Ruidus-born people in Exandria. Exandria had two moons, Catha (which waxes and wanes like our moon) and Ruidus which acts sporadically and has a lot of lore (and suspicion) around it. Might make for a cool thing to explore with the Moonweaver.
She’s also considered to be the goddess of the autumn season. You mentioned your Shifter likes to eat, maybe their favorite foods are fall dishes like pumpkin pie or apple strudel?
Since you want the Domain to link, I’d look into Wildhunt as your Shifter option, seeing as they have good Wisdom checks and can’t be surprised. That could be flavored as the Moonweaver’s blessing and that no mystery stays shrouded from you for long.

Maybe I should ask since it occurred to me now: the Moon Domain gets a Channel Divinity that gives advantage on lycanthrope-inspired checks (Perception for smell and Survival for tracking and hunting) and +10 ft speed, all for an hour. Would wildhunt still be a good choice, even with this in mind?
I appreciate your insights, and I'll definitely be adding a bit of an autumnal flair to this guy. The mid-autumn full moon is often called the "Hunter's Moon," after all! Perfect theme for an heir to night's predators.
You have a good point. I forgot about the Blessing of the Watchful Moon and even though you’ll get a bit of crossover in Perception and Survival with Wildhunt, you’d still get advantage on Insight, which I think is still on point thematically for someone who worships a goddess who can shroud secrets, or expose them, at her leisure. Think of it like having that edge on Insight is the Moonweaver whispering in your ear that the person in front of you is hiding something. It definitely shows you are favored by her. And on top of that, never having a creature get advantage on you for a full minute, especially in combat, is a huge boon.
But ultimately, it’s up to you! Your character, your choice, as always. These are merely suggestions on my part. If I may, if not Wildhunt, what Shifting form were you thinking on going with?
It was going to be wildhunt or beasthide. Wildhunt because the name is cool and I'll be playing a high Wis caster in a party that's apparently going to dump Wis from the looks of things (plus MotM associates it with doglike werewolves, which is a wonderful image), and Beasthide because temp HP and AC is always good to have (and the Monster Hunter video game series is releasing a lycanthrope inspired monster in the next game, which can freeze its fur and hide into armor when it transforms, which immediately made me think of beasthide).
Love the visual for Beasthide. And doglike lycanthrope is always a cool take over the edgy werewolf that most people do.
I would recommend going for Beasthide if you’re trying to optimize for combat or Wildhunt for roleplay/exploration. Those will give you the most bang for your buck in terms of features and flavor.
Regardless, have fun! Should be a good character to run and Exandria is my world of choice to run games in nowadays, so that should be a great game to play.
