I find I have more time to write backstories for characters than I have time to play them so I thought I would share one here.
Hergot Silos Demorage Exstasia Coronias
Hergot was an unremarkable man, born into the illustrious Coronias family. While his siblings became known for their feats and accomplishments in the realms of politics, finances and war Hergot was mostly forgotten by his family and the world at large.
He embarked on a journey of self discovery, hoping to find his niche in the greater world. He studied with monks to learn the powers of meditation, but grew bored with the practice. He visited the wilds and attempted to learn the practices of the druids, but allergies assailed him and so he left. Wherever Hergot went, he grew restless and irritated that he didn't seem to be talented at anything.
Until one day, while traveling from one failed venture to another Hergot heard a voice call to him from the woods. Curious, he set out through the thick bramble and vines until he came upon a dappled clearing. There didn't appear to be anyone around, but when he called out the voice replied "Save me, Hergot!". The voice was coming from beneath a mat of leaves on the ground. Brushing them aside, Hergot discovered a strange, four-edged longsword laying on the ground. It looked to him like two of the longswords his father kept over the fireplace had been merged lengthwise at perpendicular angles. The voice was coming from the sword.
"Hello?" Hergot asked as he picked up the sword. He was instantly assaulted with visions of a shadowy realm, a place where the dead lingered and a Queen of Feathers reigned over a misty valley. She was beguiling and beautiful and Hergot ached for her. As quickly as the visions came upon him, they faded. He had returned to the clearing, sword in hand.
"My name is Faen, I am yours," the sword spoke to him in his mind in a woman's voice.
Hergot had never felt so confident in all his life. His first thought was to return home and share his discovery with his family, but he knew they'd try to take Faen away from him. So, instead Hergot set out into the world, determined to exceed all his family's expectations of him and prove he was not the failure they all claimed he was.
