I know nothing of the lore for D&D so I'm not sure if this is a thing that can be done or how it would work out if could be done. I'm a necromancer wizard and my teacher is a runaway necromancer wizard from They. From the little that I have found out about that place I can't really see why a wizard would leave, it seems like a cool place to be if you are a wizard, so I guess my questions are: WOULD a wizard runaway from the city? If one did, would the other wizards/leaders care about it? If they did care, would they send someone after them? If said runaway/s got in truble would the city leaders do something to resolve the issue like try to kill the person or bribe the people involved to "look the other way"? How dangerous would it be to try to go back? And lastly, how much influence do they have in other regions or cities and how much influence do other organizations like the Zhentarim have in the city of They?
The Red Wizards rely on trade for much of their economy. I would think they would have the same influence on the surrounding nations based on what resources are of value. A wizard may leave for any number of reasons most of which would be related to world domination, personal ambition, or in search of some way to raise up in the ranks. If they were running away, it may be for political or lawful reasons. Possibly from bringing harm to anyone in their class or higher. This is considered a serious crime and punishment is severe. Check out "Unapproachable East" . It has tons of info pertaining to the region.
The are a lot of great stories to be told regarding Red Wizards. I know there was a civil war leading to the Spellplague so he/she could always have been with the losing side. Though I would say the relationship between you and your master is a prime source for this conflict. Perhaps your master is merely looking out for an old friend's child, as an Obi Wan figure. Neglecting his/her duties in Thay is possibly another reason he can't go back. Thay is a well oiled machine and a missing cog is noticed. Maybe your master wanted freedom from organized society so he fled found an apprentice he could experiment with without regulations set by puffed up superiors. The world is your oyster, crack it as you will.
SparklesThePurple - Thanks, I'll look into Unapproachable East.
Captain_Salty - I really like those ideas, they give me a better focus on the idea I was working on. Oh and sorry for the spelkins 😌 it's not my strongest skill
