So, just out of curiosity, when l cast the spell, am l summoning a Celestial/Fey/Fiend that takes the form of a animal, or am l channeling the energies of the plane to create a creature to do my bidding? Is there any official lore on the subject, or is it DM Dependent?
Like, If i'm a Pact of the Chain Warlock, am l actually summoning a pseudodragon, or am l summoning a Fey that looks like a Pseudodragon? Is that a actual Imp from the 9 hells, or does it just look like one? Would this creature still exist if my magic doesn't manifest it? Does frumpkin still exist after C2!?
Your channeling a spirit and deciding what animal form it takes. So you decide if it’s a spirit fey fiend or celestial, it already exists as a spirit. You are just moulding it to an animal form.
A "spirit" isn't a defined creature, so the DM could imagine this entity to be whatever fits into their lore.
However, the general consensus seems to be that a "spirit" may as well be comparable to a mote of light floating through the relevant plane of origin. It has a unique existence, but essentially has no stats due to being so insubstantial. Effectively, a "spirit" is the "essence of being" tied to a particular plane.
