I’m currently tinker with an idea for s Reborn Barbarian (thinking of Ancestral Guardian path) but I’m having difficulty deciding on a background.
The lore that I have for her is that she was an undead warrior created as a powerful minion for an Orcus-worshipping necromancer who “woke up” and is now trying to figure out who she was and what she is now.
If I were the DM I'd be perfectly happy to leave it at that. You say right there she is trying to figure out who she was and what she is now. You don't need to answer those question in session 0, or session 100. Absolutely nothing wrong, and frankly a lot right, with giving your character a mystery that will get resolved much later in the game. Give the character a trinket of a design fashion not seen in your character's present locality. So time down the road of your campaign, maybe you'll come across it on a standard banner, or carved into a wall, or maybe someone wearing it.
