I am currently writing a new campaign for some friends, and we plan on using some of Marune's back story. I read that he hid in a stronghold under Mount Helimbrar for 30 years to study the book of vauth. I was curious about this book but i couldn't find anything on the Internet, and I don't have any books around to help me. Does anyone know anything about this book ? Was anything ever written on the content of this book ?
I am in agreement. No known information. That is rather strange that a name like Vauth is dropped as if it's truly important and that Marune spent 30 years studying it. Vauth as a name does not appear anywhere from a quick web search. So in my opinion I say it's yours to craft (not that it wasn't already). Here are some of my takeaways from what we know. Marune was a necromancer and human. So odds are the book was Necromancy and most likely written in common. Or it could be written in many languages.
I would make that book a powerful Necromancy book only usable by high-level Wizards. Maybe even only readable by Necromancers. It might be that Vauth was a dark entity from another realm who wrote the book or Vauth was also just a powerful 20-plus-level Necromancer. Lastly, Vauth could be a cabal that wrote a collection of secrets into the book. Some spells others arcane knowledge of places of power or items of power that anyone who was foolish enough to get them could unleash hell upon the world. But all the secrets and knowledge are tricky to understand and require a long time to get any information from the book. It could be full of lies and one needs to see past what is false to get to the truths hidden on the pages.
That is just my initial brainstorm. I hope the small flood of ideas helps. If not sorry but Vauth shall remain a mystery.

I live my life like a West Marches campaign, A swirling vortex of Ambitions and Insecurities.
You guys would do well to purchase or read "City of Splendors: Waterdeep" by Eric Boyd! This is an accessory for the Forgotten Realms campaign during D&D 3.5. This really details Waterdeep, its history, detailed maps, NPC's, local laws, and some good story telling ideas.
The thing is they don't tell you anything about the Book of Vauth other than it was used to study. I can't even find reference to the name Vauth so the lore is completely open for you to interpret anyway you like. In fact that will be WotC's stance if you ask them. What we can conclude from the author's lore is Marune goes to his layer often to research strategy and design weapons and artifacts. Marune fashioned the Slippers of Shadowwalking supposedly in his lair, so maybe you can work an angle that is a Tome of many arcane secrets. That if in the right hand would make anyone an artificer of grand knowledge. It wouldn't have any tactical advantages, but it seems to help from a research angle. Or maybe it teaches how to draw power from some mystical source. Anyway, this is your chance to shine, and make this item part of your story. And between you and me, I would absolutely read that story!!!

I am not sure what my Spirit Animal is. But whatever that thing is, I am pretty sure it has rabies!
Vauth was mentioned in an older D&D Source TSR 9491 - FOR8 - Pages from the Mages
On page 88 it describes the book Orjalun's Arbatel containing 7 spells of which 2 were unique spells. The 2 two unique spells Encrypt and Secure "were obtained from the books of Vauth, another apprentice of the Masked."
The Masked was one of the seven wizards of Myth Drannor.
