Class: Sorcerer (Draconic)/Sometimes a wizard dip, depending on the setting/party.
Appearance: Sora Avalon is the picture-esq of nobility, and by that stretch the furthest one would come to expect from an adventurer. Standing at 5’4 is nothing out of the ordinary, but her unblemished and fair complexion marks her as somebody who had a very generous upbringing, presumably one with little physical work. Her posture is immaculate which advances this idea, and the high set cheek bones and pointed ears coupled with a warm face and bright smile marks her as a half-elf.
The young lady is a classic, noble beauty but also has her own style which allows her to stand out in a crowd. Deep purple/lilac colour hair, often worn in a fashionable bun or left to flow on its own, is the most noticeable and clearly maintained through dyeing or magical means. Beyond her hair, Sora has some impossibly deep golden eyes, far beyond the reaches of anything natural and almost mesmerising.
Sora is often changing her attire to fit the fashions and actions she is undertaking. Most common is a dark purple cloth that clings to her frame tightly, this is usually out of sight and worn under a more civilised purple robe with gold etchings running along the ends. Various pieces of jewellery such as gold bracelets and earrings are a common sight, the most noticeable of all however is a lavish ring that rests on her left pinkie finger that shows a noble sigil. It would be very clear from her attire that Sora is either connected to, or a noble herself.
The description above is clear to everybody, but a more inquisitive set of eyes might spy small, white scales peering from her lower neck and shoulder area, something most unusual. An even further investigation would pick up her golden eyes take on a more slitted appearance while she is channelling magic, very much akin to those of a lizard. Or a dragon.
Backstory: The Avalon name has always been synonymous with the arcane, specifically the school of divination. For generations the Avalon family has used their skill to glimpse disasters and offer their pre-emptive aid, it was through these acts the family was given their nobility. They were a family steeped in tradition and held in high regard by others.
Sora was born into the seventh generation of the family’s nobility, and was the eldest child of three and only daughter to Thaddeus Avalon, the father, and head of the noble house. Being born the eldest was to be born with expectation, and Sora thrived with that expectation. From a young age her mother began educating her in the ways of nobility, while her father and other Avalon tutors instructed her in the studies of divination. Sora lived a life of luxury in the eyes of others, but few could understand the level of commitment that was required to bear the Avalon name. In hindsight, she never had much of a childhood as she devoted herself to her studies and identity and quickly became the golden child in the eyes of many. She was advancing in her arcane studies and was very comfortable in flexing her noble station in an appropriate manner. Her family would often jest and remark that Sora was born to be a noble.
Years flew by as they have a habit of doing and there was some strain in the family. Adrian, the middle child seemed to have no magical prowess regardless of how hard he was studying, which led to the family marking him as a black sheep of sorts. The tradition for the Avalons was to foster relationships in siblings, as it was the siblings that would serve as advisors and guards for the eldest child in each generation.
It was on the eve of Sora’s 18 birthday that things would take an unimaginable twist for her life. The young Avalon found herself drifting in a dreamlike state one night, when she became aware she couldn’t wake herself, and things were beginning to feel far more real than any dream Sora had experienced before. Her surroundings quickly began to shift and change, morphing into what can be described as a giant cave, with an impossibly large amount of gold and treasure in the middle. Sora began to fall and land atop this pile, as she picked herself up and looked around, then she saw it… A colossal white dragon curled around the pile of gold and turned to Sora, roaring in pain. The beasts’ eyes were staring to stream with tears, each droplet easily half the size of Sora. In a state of panic Sora was franticly trying to wake herself, but the beast kept roaring in agony and suffering. Sora could feel an energy wafting off the dragon that was unlike anything she had felt or read about.
The dream lasted for what felt like days, and Sora woke up with tears of her own. At first, she was terrified, but after what felt like hours she wanted nothing more than to stop the dragons pain, to help the creature. It made her so angry that she was so powerless… Then she felt it. This primal surge of pure magic rush through her body and set her hands ablaze in startling white fire. The surge continued as Sora felt her skin around her lower neck and shoulders begin to break and small scales rise. Her noble instincts took over and she began screaming.
Guards rushed in and pulled her from the bed that was now ablaze in white flames. Sora was a sobbing mess and unable to formulate any words. It wasn’t until the following day was she able to explain her experiences to her farther, who was equally confused. Thaddeus had his daughter bed ridden for a week with a variety of cleric and doctors while he sent word to other wizards of the land, trying desperately to seek answers… After a week, Thaddeus had found nothing. The only thought that made any sense was somewhere this albino dragon was in trouble, and for whatever reason had reached out to Sora, imbuing apart of its magic into her.
Sora tried hard to normalise her lifestyle after the incident, but she could feel her arcane gifts slipping away. Simple spells she learnt as a child were becoming too complex and intensive for her to concentrate on, and this hurt Sora more than anything ever could. In her eyes she had one job, to live up to the Avalon name and become the next divination wizard the family needed… And she couldn’t even manage that anymore.
There was a silver lining however, these white flames that Sora conjured by accident lingered and seemed to burn impossibly hot. Sora could feel and channel the magic of this dragon to super charge and empower her spells. She spent months trying to come to grasps with these new changes to mixed success. All the while her dreams were still plagued with this albino dragon, roaring in pain. These dreams were frequent, at least twice a week and every time Sora would awake in tears and a direction of purpose to somehow help…
A few more years passed and Sora couldn’t take it anymore. With permission from her parents Sora packed what she needed and set out to further herself and learn more about the world beyond her sheltered upbringing and to discover what on earth this dragon has marked her for. Naturally her father insisted she travel with company of guards or a family member, but this is something Sora feels compelled for the first time in her life, to do it without noble help.
Sora Avalon is and always will be three things. Intelligent, beautiful and an Avalon.
Personality: Sora’s personality is that of a dragon, both the positives and negatives. She is extremely prone to compliments and has led a lifestyle that makes her expect praise for her actions, as well as having an inherent desire to show off or hold the centre of attention. However from this, she if a fierce friend and puts a large value on anything she deems worthy, both material possessions and things like friendship.
The young Avalon is a big sister. She is sheltered and not used to the lifestyle as an adventurer, and as such she is quick to try to alleviate discomfort of party members and watch out for them in the bigger picture. Being sheltered Sora has a warped understanding of the reality and believes that things will always work out, however her farther drilled into her from a young age that planning and study are the best tools to overcome an obstacle. Sora in an Avalon, and this is her biggest personality trait. Everything she has done in her life is to better her family name. She is aware she is sheltered, and wants to learn how the world works to be a better leader and noble to the commonfolk.
As a DnD character: The sorceress is a full blaster. Focusing primarily on fire based spells such as scorching rays, fireball and even using her noble wealth to afford chromatic orb from low levels. Naturally she boasts charisma as her highest stat, and intelligence is often second place. Wisdom and strength are her lowest due to her lifestyle and little use of them. For skills, she often picks up things like arcana, persuasion, performance, nature and all that jazz. In my mind Sora is just a wizard with less spells, and she enjoys playing to her intelligence.

So please, what are your thoughts? Do you have any question you would like to ask about Sora?
Epic backstory! This actually reminds me of a character I used to play. His name was Ander Stormwind. He was a level 18 sorcerer, so he was very powerful
Ik it's stupid late to the party but I have to say I love your character. I actually made a sorceress who was related to ex-mercanaries and she went on an adventure to find out about her ancestry. (Sadly she died) but I just wanted to say you inspired me to rewrite that character into a Gem Dragon/Goliath Barbarian path of the beast.

"Sir, let me be frank with you..."

Loved this! Also the artwork is amazing! Did you draw this yourself?
