Well. Real thri-kreen live on Athas - in the Dark Sun setting. So the below propably isn't canon, but consider it the origin story of whatever the race has since become.
Thri-kreen are tribal insect guys who live in the desert. Despite their intelligence they are somewhat of a primitive culture, primal and ritualistic. Being creatures of the deep desert, where there isn't much of anything edible, perhaps it isn't really surprising that they consider all edible things to be food. In other words, they'll happily munch down on other sentients - or kreen from other tribes - if no other prey presents itself.
Their mouths aren't really human-analog, they have mandibles and no voice boxes. They can make clicking sounds with their mouth, and singing or buzzing sounds with their wings. In essense, when they speak, they have much the same options as a grasshopper does. To put it differently, it's not that they cannot learn to speak common - but they'll always sound like grasshoppers when they do.
Traditionally, they lean more into psionics than magic - which is a Dark Sun thing, so maybe difficult to emulate in 5e or 2024.
What else? They have a strong pack sense, but little in the way of an established society. That is of course discounting the Kreen Empire - which is something I always considered a mistake. But yea, in principle they also have an empire. It doesn't really make any sense to me: If there was any verdant place on Athas, why haven't the dragons turned it un-verdant?!

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
Can add a little more. Thri Kreen have a 30 year life span with a max age of 35. However, they don't sleep. All Kreen are minor psionics. Due to them not having vocal cords, they communicate via telepathy. Their mouths secrete a minor paralysis poison that rarely gets used.
Their top arms are their dominate arms while their bottom arms are only capable of minor lifting.
They are pack hunters and loyal to their clutchmates. They will gladly sacrifice themselves to save their packmates.
Thri Kreen view all meat as food and will gladly eat a sentient creature. Elf meat is considered a delicacy and always their perferred meal. However, they will never eat anyone that is accepted as a pactmate.
Thri Kreen society is very diverse and different hives are typically at war with each other. Different thri kreen will kill each other on sight. They consider eliminating another hive as survival of the fittest. A Kreen that is wounded, has a birth defects or is smaller than other Kreen is typically killed and likely eaten. These Kreen typically escape and become tactless. Pactless kreen typically don't survive long and will quickly latch on to any other creature as a pactmate. These are the most typical Kreen adventurers will encounter solo. Its because of this that Kreen are particularly sought after as slave gladiators. They work extremely well in team combat.
Or just abandon all the lore and become a Hollow Knight character. That's what I did.

Pokemon Master, Hero of Hyrule, Jedi Knight, Minecrafter, Celestial Being Beyond Comprehension, Bounty Hunter, Salmon Runner, Nailmaster, Yarn Yoshi Enjoyer, Animal Lover, Math Rock Roller, Nerd King in all Aspects.
(And, of course, Dragon Tamer. It is in the name, after all)
My singular brain cell bounces around the inside of my skull like the Sony logo, and every time it hits a corner, it generates a coherent thought.
JUst the title, I saw a cool Thri-kreen guy and want to know more about them.
Hey! I make (what I believe to be, could use some feedback) good homebrew!

Very interesting! I can already think of some great character concepts!
