The abyss has always been a perfect story hook whether for just the demon lords or further mal/benevolent creatures but there's always been so many more questions it raises rather than answers. If you have any answers or personal stories/lore that you made up to answer these questions please share.
Question 1: What went into the way that the layers were structured and written down? There are often massive gaps in the known layers and I was just wondering why that is.
Question 2: Do you think there's at least in some way a being or even some sort of background force behind the new formation of layers and the seemingly endlessness of the abyss? Like maybe some sort of primordial god's dreams (like Azathoth as an example) or some sort of nightmare that they can't escape from seeing as the deeper you go typically the less friendly or more convoluted the layers get.
Question 3: What's at the bottom of the endless pit? Is there a way to even reach it? Is it something like the weave's physical manifestation or is it potentially something equal in power but much, much, much more sinister in nature still trying to claw it's way up to the surface maybe? (feel free to use any of my theoreticals as your a plot hook for your campaigns)
Thanks for any answers that you contribute. I really appreciate it.
Also reading the Monster Manuals about the Creatures that live there gives interesting descriptions.
There is a LOT of information out there, hope this helps!
Cheers :)

Breathe, dragons; sing of the First World, forged out of chaos and painted with beauty. Sing of Bahamut, the Platinum, molding the shape of the mountains and rivers; Sing too of Chromatic Tiamat, painting all over the infinite canvas. Partnered, they woke in the darkness; partnered, they labored in acts of creation.

My understanding is that they weren't actually aliens. They're a terrestrial species that evolved in the deep oceans. https://xender.vip/
