I haven't gotten past chapter 1, but the image that's paired with the Zhentarim Ruffian feat is of two of the 7 Sisters (Dove and The Simbul)? I'm taken aback; I can only just shake my head and wonder what might be in chapter 2.
FWIW I don't think that image is intended to be paired with that feat, it just happens to be next it because it's the last feat in that section and it's artwork that appears to be a "bookend" to the section.
I'm not buying it. First off, when did I miss the Zents changing from Manshoon's private army into a "family organization"? Which then leads me to believe they inserted the picture of two of the Seven Sisters to back up that family vibe. The whole thing just doesn't sit right given the history of everyone involved in this situation. I'm not sure Ed Greenwood would approve.
Reading through some of it feels like they copy and pasted texts from SCAG. One key piece is Damara which states that Yarin Frostmantle is still the ruler in the current time of 1501 DR. This was stated also in SCAG which is like in 1489 DR, however he was killed in 1487 DR by Artemis Entreri in the Forgotten Realms novel "Hero". While RA Salvatore definitely published his novel a year after SCAG was published there seems to be a whole inconsistency despite the Heroes of Faerun pushing Salvatore's novels as deeper delve into the Forgotten Realms' history.
Isn't part of the plot of Waterdeep: DH is how there's the old Manshoon faction and the current leaders of the Zhent?. Also, a lot of the lore is the same as SCAG, the 2014 DMG and W:DH. Nothing has changed. The Zhents are your fantasy mafia/Yakuza, and that hasn't changed
I'm curious as to why Tymanther is no longer a country, as they seemed to be doing well and winning against Unther in both wars. Unther was also attacking from the north, yet the country is in the south from where Tymanther used to be. Djerad Kehendi isn't even listed, but Djerad Thymar is still standing. Not sure about borders, but it looks like the territory between Unther and Chessenta is just free game, and not owned by Unther. Maybe their point is since Tymanther got pretty heavily invaded by Gilgeam to where Djerad Thymar and Kethendi were under siege, that its just not a country anymore? Not sure.
This book is approximately 10 years after SCAG, so around 1501 DR. The implication is that they lost in that timeframe. It also seems to be setting it up as a plot hook for an adventure
There's definitely some lore problems. They still have Yarin Frostmantle as king of Damara, and he's been dead in canon for several years now.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it鈥檚 a scam. Unless it鈥檚 me. I鈥檇 never lie to you, reader dearest.
The whole Yarin thing is Salvatore which both Forgotten Realms books nod to and even suggest as reading material. The lore does matter because this is the "Story & Lore" thread. If we are to ignore that, then what is the point of discussing it here?
There's definitely some lore problems. They still have Yarin Frostmantle as king of Damara, and he's been dead in canon for several years now.
Ed Greenwood is not the writer of this book.
Ed Greenwood canon doesn't matter here.
Ergo, the character can be alive because this is the game's canon, not his.
Salvatore's books are realms canon. Salvatore wrote Yarin Frostmantle into existence, and Salvatore wrote him out of existence. Ed Greenwood has absolutely nothing to do with anything that happens in Damara to the best of my knowledge.
WotC couldn't be bothered with a quick search to know that by the time of this writing, Yarin Frostmantle should have been dead for over 20 years by their own chosen author and canon.

Source for Salvatore being canon as of D&D 2024?

This isn't a 2014 book, so the context must be answered here.
Is Salvatore canon to 2024, since this isn't a 2014 book when his agreement w/pre-micromanaged by Hasbro WotC was set in stone.
I'd ask the same if we were debating if Hickman & Weis were the supreme authorities on Dragonlance IN THE GAMES in the likely circumstance we get a 2024 Dragonlance GAME book.
My overall point is that the authors of the novels aren't in authority in any demonstrable way when 2024 came around.
2014 they were, but we're not there anymore. So the onus is on you to prove ANY novel author has authority superseding Mackenzie de Armas regarding canon in the current DND 2024 game. Not just Salvatore & Greenwood, or Hickman & Weis, or even Keith Baker.

Style of Artwork (much better in AoF), but here I am missing the Forgotten Realms DNA. Faer没n is still human focused or? Based on the artworks I've the impression most of the inhabitants are dragonborns, tieflings and goliaths. Where are all the humans?
C'mon, I was very disappointed about the Orcs in the new PHB or MM (no one), and now the same style also in Faer没n. Why? If I would replay Sons of Gruumsh, should I play cards with the orcs instead of battling them?
Purple Dragon Knights New Lore. First I was happy to saw the Banneret instead of a Dragon Purple Knight because I don't want to see them riding on amethyst dragons. Was sure that you guys learned from customer feedback. But no. This is really bad storytelling. A ghost of a amethyst dragon saw in Krynn that people like dragons and therefore he brought amethyst dragons to Cormyr to befriend them with the purple dragon knights? Really? Why they can't be only knights why they should be dragonriders?
Only main pantheon, no elven, dwarven, gnome, halfling and orc pantheon? [Redacted]
What I like in HoF:
Spellfire Magic & Circle Magic are back, yes!
All the maps from Mike Schley, they are really great. Can't wait for a high-res map of Faer没n
Funny; the overall feedback I've been seeing in multiple forums is that this book is a step up from SCAG. This is the first comment I've seen saying SCAG is better.

I advise you flush out all older/external authors out of your minds:It'll make reading this much easier.
Then you'll notice stuff like Hoar being missing from the gods, and other errors like that.
The book is SCAG 2.0. It always was intended to be such. They just covered more than the Sword Coast this time.
