I read something recently that WotC has plans to bring novels back, following the new D&D movie. So I assume they will be set in Dragonlance? That's just a guess. I will try to find the source material on this.
They will bring them back eventually. I have to imagine that there is a good reason for them having to discontinue them. I just wish I knew what it was.

I'm not sure the info about the Dragonlance script floating about is related to the earlier news of a D&D movie.
I'm working on writing a novel about a campaign my friends and I are doing and I need some help moving the story along or just some fun ideas in general!

My guess is that the sell of novels was low and they had to get rid of them. Remember D&D is made by a public company WotC owned by a mega corporation Hasbro. A lot of people don't realize how bad 4th edition hurt D&D and the fact that Pathfinder was I believe out selling the official D&D product made D&D in jeopardy. 5th edition was literally a last resort to pull D&D out of non existence by WotC. From what I read and have heard 4th was really really close to the chopping blocks where Hasbro has killed many other products. 5th therefore has to make as much money as possibly and while novels might make some money, they probably don't have a lot of funds to give to a project that won't bring in significant money and would prefer anything that might look like D&D is a waste of resources on hasbros end to simply not show up on the books.
This also explains why Dungeon Tiles and the like have not really made an appearance and why they are putting out less resources.
So really the lack of novels is because they don't sell well enough to encourage WotC to put resources into them at this moment. Especially since WotC has more successful products that make more money and keep Hasbro happy and D&D was on the naughty list for Hasbro.
Thankfully 5th seems to have turned things around, but I imagine it still isn't as great as it was during 3rd edition (yes they mentioned somewhere 5 was doing better in its cycle than 3rd did, but that's not saying much. What matters is how well it is actually doing compared to how well third did at the end and ultimately how well pathfinder is doing and how well the other projects at WotC and Hasbro are doing). So I think the business fallout from the failure of 4th still hasn't recovered enough to let D&D risk projects that won't pay off.
Social acceptance of DND has improved quite nicely in recent years so I like to imagine that this DND renaissance will produce some new books. At least I can hope lol
For Forgotten Realms, no. They've discontinued the novel line (which personally I think is a terrible idea).
At Gencon last year I attended the FR novels panel, unfortunately, it was strongly suggested that WotC will no longer be supporting their fiction line, for the present. What was still unknown was how this would legally impact RA Salvatore, (would he sue?). What we do know is that Cunningham has finished her run and no new novels are going to be published.
it remains to be seen how Bob Salvatore will handle this.

Alas, looks like the movie is dead, and so is the novel fiction line.
Chris Perkins mentioned that its not a priority right now, their priority is the Table top game and board game lines. Personally, I think D&D is doing what they do best, not venturing into niche markets that caused the financial catastrophes of the 90's.
On Forgotten Realms novels: They feel the novel business is very tricky, and they are a game company. They're not necessarily good at novels business. They don't have a good plan for novels, and they do not have a novel publishing expert on their team right now. It's not something they say they will never do again, it's just not their focus this year. They would consider a partnership, but they're not looking for it.

they discontinues the novels because they wanted to tell the stories through the adventures released every year. it started with the novel line introducing the new timeline for 5e, and then each major adventure/campaign release has been a sort of in world continuation of a story, with some offshoots like ravenloft and yawning portal. i could be wrong though because i havent played through or run all of them.
my other major thought is, with in 2017 how much streaming they have sponsored of games, and it seeming like acquisitions incorporated is semi-canon for the basic forgotten realms and surely force grey and maybe a couple of the other shows they sponsor on their channel and others i dont watch, that they are basically "selling" us novels in streaming adventures form. i know the "c" team for aq inc and Dice Camera Action have mixed players, and that Jerry's character Omen is meant to really exist (maybe along with the others, unsure for that) in the forgotten realms "canon" setting.
i have had my ear to the ground about new books coming and havent heard much, so i may try to find these rumors you guys have talked about, but with "pulp adventure" sort of having a comeback right now, conan and other fun fantasy romps not in the style of epic/political series fantasy like Song of Ice and Fire or Robert Jordans epic bookseries but in the old adventure story style. i can only hope we get some interesting sword and sorcery tales with the D&D flavor because the market is still mired in epic fantasy, and it's just not the same to me.

I'm left to speculate "why" and I cannot come up with any good reasons. Here's for hoping that they have a plan.
But... in the meantime, this give me time to try and catch up with all the books I haven't read!
Be careful what you Wish for... your DM may just give it to you!
I recall that they recently stated that new novels were in development.

Does anyone know if any D@D novels are coming? Realms, Lance, Greyhawk, even Dark Sun?

The movie is dead? Where did you hear that?
This thread over at ENWorld has some insight.
my best guess is:
