Hello all! First time posting here. I'm looking for resources on some of the older D&D lore that 5th edition doesn't really touch on.
Specifically, I can't seem to find any information on the origin of Primus, the leader of the modrons. There is no creation mythos that I can find. I can find bits of general information here and there across the ether of the internet —a YouTube video here, a wikia article there— but nothing detailing the origins of Primus.
I also sometimes find conflicting information on certain pieces of lore. When I first starting looking into the Inevitables, I had seen one or two older posts that said 5e hadn't yet mentioned them, or at least there were no stat blocks that 'codified' them. Those posts might have been older, because I did find a bestiary entry here on DDB for the Maruts, a type of Inevitable. However, this entry states they were created by Primus, while another source elsewhere on the internet indicated they were created by Moradin, and other articles on Moradin either don't mention that he created them, or credits their creation to another god entirely.
I'm very frustrated at the inconsistent, incomplete, and disjointed information and lore of the Forgotten Realms setting. I can understand if things change over the many decades that the setting has existed, but then none of the outdated information is marked as deprecated, either. Can anybody recommend some reliable (read: current) sources for learning about the lore of The Forgotten Realms? I've got most of the Sourcebooks here on DDB, and searching here usually yields some helpful results, but they of course don't cover everything, particularly the kind of narrow details I'm looking for on Primus, for example.
If you're looking for old sources on Primus and the modrons, there's the first ed. Monster Manual II and a couple Planescape things from 2e. There was a module about the modrons, and maybe a sourcebook about the planes of Law. I think the way it works is that when a Primus dies, a Secundus gets promoted, but whether the first Primus was built by the modrons or built the modrons itself, I don't think is written down anywhere. The gears of Mechanus require a Primus, so there's a Primus. People just don't use modrons and slaads as often as angels and demons, so not as much is written down.
I'm sure you know there are dozens of sourcebooks on Realms lore, going back to 1e. None of them are going to be comprehensive, though. The writers deliberately leave blank space for home DMs.

I had wondered about that. I was hoping that might be the case, and that it wasn't simply a lack of available information. My only concern was stepping on the established lore for certain places if it can be avoided. I'm working on a campaign now and want to be as true to the Forgotten Realms as I can be, and fill in the blanks where they need filled in. Thank you!
