So my good buddy, sometimes player sometimes DM,has a pretty valid point that is stumping me. In literature what types of character examples are there for what in D&D would be a barbarian monk? Someone who utilizes internal energies like ki while in a state of madness that is beyond simply being angry.
All of my answers tend to be fairly modern, Street Fighter, Asura's Wrath, and Dragon Ball for example. His dilemma, which I see as valid, is that this imagery doesn't blend well with sword and sorcery.
In simplest terms he sees Rage = Extreme hightened emotions, while Ki = Tranquility. While I argue that Rage and Ki are actually very similar, pushing your body beyond normal humanoid ability through internal energies. He is willing to sway a bit, because the mechanics force him to, yet without an equivalent literary or some other media of less modern origin it is breaking his emersion.
Let's start with the elephant in the room. This is a super weird build. A lot of their stuff doesn't stack, and you need to have at least four stats above 13.
If you really want it, and you can get it, and the only thing standing in the way is the sword and sorcery thing, I agree there aren't many. The ones off the top of my head are Darth Maul and Raphael from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That said, maybe that Snow Leopard villain from Kung Fu Panda would fit the description as well. The way I see this build working best would be dipping into barb for a few levels to get really tanky. Then you'd be sort of an exaggerated Bolo Yeung type. You'd be the nameless guy with the iron boxing gloves who brings down a house on top of Jackie Chan and then laughs uproariously and tells him he has great spirit. I can't really think of a name, but it's a recognizable character type, and I think it translates well to sword and sorcery.
