So, I have this idea for a character, and I thought to myself "Well, a Rogue that can use Booming Blade/ Green Flame Blade and also Hex his/her target would be awesome" but I didn't want to wait until multiclassing, so why not human variant it? But, here lies the problem: the feat doesn't give you how you get them, just the mechanical features. And that's the discussion I want to raise, and maybe get a few questions.
Sure, I could go old boring way and give up on hex, going for Magic Missile with Wizard or Sorcerer. Then, my character would be like Well, you see, I had this job where my handler taught me this few tricksorWell, you see, sometimes things go wrong, and Mama Rogue mets Papa Arcane Explosion and Mama Rogue never been the same ever since. You see where I am going, they're relatively easy backgrounds to come up too. But I got this idea in my mind and I do need a warlock and nothing more. And given the whole pact thing to achieve magic, how do you guys deal with it?
Idea 1:
The character's parents were poor artesans that were really struggling, and one day they made a pact with a Fey creature, giving in exchange for the gracious craftsmanship their unborn child. Time passes and the child, now grown out, unknowingly acts in accord to her patreon and the Fey takes a liking in her, giving a few powers before later demanding her services on a quest.
Idea 2:
Given the character's parents are jewelers and one day a warlock of the Raven Queen comes in the shop, asking for the typical maintanance on his Arcane Focus, a small raven head made out obsidian, and the character is designated to deal with the job, as her father deals with the customer. The moment she touches the amulet, she is given goosebumps and feels this calling coming from the amulet, as if the eyes were shinning and calling her to her destiny. She then spend the whole night crafting a new one to deliver to the warlock, as a way to keep this strange artefact for herself. And the amulet would how she gets her power.
