Hey everyone, i'm a DM for a group of 4 players and we're all new to the Eberron setting. We've been playing for years but only in the Forgotten Realms setting. I've been doing a ton of reading on Eberron, and instead of dropping a big document on my players, i'd like to have the players experience the world directly. The 3 ideas i had in mind to get their feet wet were:
Have them start in a large city (Sharn in this case), so they know how inter-connected the game world is; compared to something like Forgotten Realms.
Their first adventure involves traveling to Xen'Drik early to make a name for themselves, and to scratch that old-school exploring itch.
Use the travel to Xen'Drik as an isolated introduction to the movers and shakers of the setting.
Wanting to be as authentic to the source material as possible, i wanted to run an adventure module. I stumbled upon the book "Voyage of the Golden Dragon" and it seemed nearly perfect; Starting in Sharn, meeting high-profile NPC's on the greatest airship in the land, and eventually staying in Xen'Drik for a good while as the ship is repaired!
Have any DM's or players used this module, and if so, do you have any tips or stories to share? I've been reading the book but it seems to run at a very quick pace with many moving parts (~20ish NPC's with about half of them being in peril at many points), which makes me sort of nervous. Thanks for reading, hope to hear from you!
To me the core of Eberron is that this isn't just a fantasy world its a fantasy world bursting into a steampunk-esque mechanical revolution. In addition the world of Eberron is very politcal, I'd suggest researching modern politcal regimes, propaganda, and rhetoric; Now that you have the intrigue we can go back to the setting. Look up the between period of WW1 and WW2 for political upheaval, Ideology change, and technology of the era.
